 WHAT IS ADA'S TEAM?

Within the Computer Science Department at the University of Alberta, we're a student group that promotes diversity in STEAM with an emphasis on technology.

WHY ARE WE CALLED ADA'S TEAM?

Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (1815–1852) was a gifted mathematician. She is considered to have written instructions for the first computer program in the mid-1800s and therefore is known as the world’s first computer programmer. She originally wrote things that were only on paper but years later her Cambridge mathematics professor Charles Babbage, who had invented the Difference Engine, used Ada’s designs and write-up’s for the inner workings of the computer.

WHAT TYPE OF EVENTS DOES ADA'S TEAM HOLD?

From outreach events to high school students, funding university students to attend international conferences, and hosting technical workshops to equip students with industry skills, we do it all!

For more details on our events, you can check out our Events page that contains our roadmap and our calendar. Also, please make sure to join our mailing list to receive monthly newsletters containing details on our events and other opportunities.

Please note that all our events will operate in a virtual manner via Zoom or Google Meet due to COVID-19.

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED, HELP, OR VOLUNTEER  WITH ADA'S TEAM?

Great question - join our mailing list! It's the best way to stay up-to-date on all our events and take advantage of opportunities we're offering. You can also follow us on our socials to receive reminders from our posts and get a closer look at our events. All our socials have been linked in the footer of the page!

Throughout the year, we are always looking for volunteers to help out with our free tutoring service, outreach events, initiatives, and technical workshops. Please send us an email if you would like to help!

DO I HAVE TO IDENTIFY AS FEMALE TO BE PART OF ADA'S TEAM?

Of course not! Ada's Team embraces and celebrates all gender expressions, and we love to see diversity in our members and executives.

DO I HAVE TO BE A STUDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA TO JOIN?

Again, absolutely not! We strive to be inclusive and encourage everyone to join our network as our events are open to the public. Whether you're a student from another post-secondary institution, an alumni, or an individual working in the industry, you have a place with Ada's Team.
